1. Orthodontic Treatment Improves Mind, Body & Spirit

Itís a proven fact that healthy, properly aligned teeth will have a positive impact on a child's self-image, health and well being. How children feel about themselves and their appearance will, in turn, affect how other people feel about them.

2. If You're Experiencing Any of These Symptoms, We Need to Talk

  • Thumb Sucking
  • Mouth Breathing
  • Allergies or Asthma

3. Kids Have Special Needs
Two-phase orthodontic treatment is designed to meet them all.

I use a special two-phase orthodontic treatment process that encompasses tooth straightening and physical facial changes. The goal of this process is to create a healthy, functional, aesthetic result. Above all we want teeth to remain in place as the child gets older.

4. Phase One (Early Treatment)
Ages 7 to 10

After age six, children diagnosed with jaw alignment problems can benefit from an early phase of orthodontic treatment that creates a proper relationship between the upper and lower jaws and develops jaw size to accommodate all permanent teeth. Early treatment can:

  • Correct Skeletal Problems
  • Guide Facial Growth
  • Prevent Crowding of Permanent Teeth
  • Prevent Unnecessary Removal of Permanent Teeth
  • Control Finger Sucking Habits
  • Reduce the Cost and Length of Phase Two Treatment (Braces)

An upper or lower jaw that is growing too much or not enough can be treated using special appliances that direct the growth relationship of the upper and lower jaws to create adequate room for the eruption of all permanent teeth.

Early correction may prevent:

  • Removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding
  • Surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws

WARNING: Leaving such a condition untreated until all permanent teeth erupt could case some of them to become impacted or severely displaced and may result in a jaw discrepancy too severe to achieve ideal results with braces alone.

Rest Period
A resting period at the end of this phase allows permanent teeth freedom of movement while they find their position in the mouth. In some cases selective removal of certain primary (baby) teeth may be in the best interest of enhancing eruption. Observation visits are required every six to twelve months to make sure skeletal growth is occurring according to plan and that all permanent teeth have plenty of room to erupt.

5. Phase Two - Braces
Ages 10 to 15

Straightens teeth with braces after all permanent teeth have erupted.

Each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established all of the teeth function properly, stay healthy and look attractive.

Phase Two begins when all permanent teeth have erupted. This stage usually requires braces on all teeth for fourteen to twenty-eight months.

7. Orthodontists are Specialists

In addition to receiving a four-year dental degree, Orthodontists must complete a rigorous, two-year advanced training program that includes studies in physics, embryology, genetics, human growth and development, radiology, biophysics and bio-mechanical engineering.

I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from The Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas and my Certificate in Orthodontics from The School of Dental and Oral Surgery at Columbia University in New York City, New York. I am a member of The Dallas County Dental Society, The American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, The Texas Dental Association, the Southwest Society of Orthodontists and The American Board of Orthodontists.

I want every patient to be fully aware of the procedures that can be taken to prevent, lessen or correct orthodontic problems.

Complimentary Exam
On your first visit weíll ask you to provide some biographical data along with information on your child's health and dental history. At that time I will perform an initial examination, discuss the length and cost of corrective treatment (if needed) and give you a chance to ask all the questions you like.

Diagnostic Appointment
Once you decide to proceed with recommended treatment, I will take a set of full face and mouth photographs, make plaster impressions of your child's upper and lower teeth and take any x-rays that may be needed.

Conference Appointment
About one week after the diagnostic appointment I will present a specific treatment plan based on my evaluation of your child's photographs, study casts and x-rays.

3. Believe It or Not

20% to 30% of orthodontic patients (ours included) are adults.
Proper tooth alignment can minimize problems caused by periodontal disease which, believe it or not, causes more tooth loss than tooth decay.

4. Adults Have Special Needs
Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age.

Each tooth has an exact location in the mouth where it is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established all of the teeth function properly, stay healthy and look attractive.

Because adult facial bones are fully-grown, some jaw and tooth abnormalities cannot be treated by braces alone. In these cases a combined approach of orthodontics and orthognathic (jaw) surgery can achieve dramatic success.

I understand the stress that facial muscles exert on new jaw relationships and have had extensive training and experience working with oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Working together, we can make certain the results of oral surgery achieve maximum functional and aesthetic results.

5. Jaw Surgery

New techniques allow patients to resume opening and closing their mouths in as little as three days to two weeks, depending on the specific procedure performed.
