Self-ligating Damon® dental braces use a permanent moveable component to entrap the archwire rather than using elastic bands or ties.
Damon® braces utilize an innovative approach which delivers faster treatment, requires fewer appointments, creates less discomfort, and produces consistent, high-quality results. They are designed to be comfortable, discreet, and easy to clean. By using a fixed, passive, self-ligating (self-bound) method to straighten teeth, they eliminate the need for elastic or metal ties. They are designed to secure themselves, as opposed to traditional braces, which are held in place by ligatures, or o-rings. The bracket itself actually holds the wire in place. With Damon® braces, dental hygiene is easier because there are no elastic ties, which tend to attract and collect plaque, as well as stain. Because they are smaller than traditional braces, food is less likely to get trapped in the brackets.
The elastic bands used in traditional braces can cause friction and pressure which make treatment less comfortable with slower progression. Without the use of elastic o-rings, the wires slide freely through the slots without friction. Small sliding doors hold the wires in place. By using a permanent, moveable slide component to hold the archwire, braces allow the teeth to move freely, quickly, and comfortably. With the innovative Damon® System, fewer adjustments are required and typically the teeth move faster than traditional methods. Treatment can usually be completed without the need for extractions or rapid palatal expanders. Because of the low-force, low-friction nature of the system, very little discomfort is experienced.
How Damon® Braces Work
Damon® braces treatment begins by using .14 inch light, high-technology wires made of an alloy of copper, nickel, and titanium (CuNiTi). These shape memory titanium wires are wider than the natural arch and have a non-anatomical shape. As the arches round out and the teeth level, successively thicker wires made of stainless steel and/or a TMA alloy are implemented. Each heavier wire is used only when it may passively be placed through the brackets. This progressive placement of wires reduces pressure exerted on the periodontal ligaments making for a more comfortable transition as the teeth are gently guided into their desired position. The smaller, less noticeable brackets are secured to the teeth with a strong dental glue. The process of getting your Damon® braces should take approximately 1-2 hours.
Beautiful Damon® Smiles
The clinically proven Damon® approach not only aligns your teeth, creating a beautiful smile, but also enhances facial aesthetics. The Damon® Smile System takes into account not only your teeth positioning, but the shape of your face, your profile, and how your face will change as you age. Because of this unique treatment philosophy, patients often notice a change not only in their teeth, but in their face, as well. A beautiful smile can build confidence and self esteem at any age, while improving your overall oral health. Damon® Smile patients have enjoyed:
